Waffle dates

Mother-daughter dates
15/01/2024

As someone who has lived in Gauteng, South Africa my entire life, one of my favourite holiday spots growing up was the coast and more specifically KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) or Durban to be even more specific. Down in KZN there is a fabulous restaurant called "The Waffle House", it is an iconic spot to visit (or at least it was for my family, we went there every holiday in Ramsgate) The restaurant is in an amazing location, situated almost on the beach, if you go out the back of the Waffle House, walk through a small lagoon you end up on the beach!

This Waffle House in Ramsgate is so worth the visit, their waffles (sweet and savoury) are mouth-wateringly good! https://wafflehouse.co.za

But my post today is unfortunately not about this seaside gem... instead I wanted to share a different waffle restaurant that my mom and I visited back in January. Our goal was to see if this ones waffles lived up to our favourite ones at the coast!

So back in January my mom and I had a little, much needed mother-daughter date, we venture out to Brits to get ourselves Shofars and on our way home we drove through Hartbeespoort where we decided to stop over for some lunch. We had both been wanting to try The Waffle House at Jasmyn.

The atmosphere and design of the restaurant was really cool and unique. We where there on a week day so basically had the place all to ourselves as well which was pretty incredible!

Seriously, how cool are the walls of this place?

Their menu claimed to have the best waffles in the land (Beste Wafels in die land) so we were excited to try them!

We definitely both wanted to try a savoury and a sweet waffle but we knew that we would not be able to finish two waffles each so we opted to share. The first disappointment was theft that they don't have a gluten-free option (my mom is gluten intolerant) But we powered through, staring our meal off with the chicken mayo waffle with a side salad. It was pretty decent, a very thick bread-dough like waffles covered with a creamy chicken. In all honesty, it was not my favourite waffle, the topping was tasty but the waffle itself wasn't the greatest.

After that we shared a bar-one waffle. Again, the waffle itself was not my favourite tasting but the cut up bar-one chocolate and the decadent bar-one sauce definitely made up for what the waffle lacked.

All in all, the lunch filled our hungry bellies and satisfied the sweet-tooth cravings but I don't think I will go back there in a hurry. They were not my favourite waffles I have tasted.

The perks of being the only ones in the restaurant though, was that our food was delivered to the table in record time which was incredible as we were both quite hungry!

The highlight of this trip for me was one hundred percent this gorgeous sleeping fluff ball! He was sprawled out under the table next to us for our entire date and looked like the happiest kitty in the world.

A small disclaimer, this blog review is 100% my own opinion. As everybody has their own tastes, likes and dislikes... you may love these waffles! So I do recommend that if you find yourself in Hartbeespoort, try it out for yourself and see what you think but if you want to travel somewhere specifically for some great waffles... head off to Ramsgate instead and try the Waffle House on the beach!

Let me know where your favourite place to get waffles is, I would love to try them!
