Admiring the busy-bees

In South Africa, there is an almost tradition that we have, I think tradition is the right word... if we have friends or family around it is generally around a "braai" (not a barbecue) Everybody brings a side dish, salad, Malva pudding, potato bakes ect. and then we all gather around a fire and cook our meat and "braai broodtjies" (Braai bread - a delicious sandwich filled with cheese, spring onion and mayo and cooked over the fire) over the braai fire!

There is something about a braai that I personally love, the smell of the fire and meat cooking over the fire. All of your loved ones gathered around a fire, eating good food and having good chats, in summer we will swim... it is a very nostalgic feeling for me, thinking back to every single Sunday, we had my entire family gather at our house after church and I absolutely loved those days!

On this particular braai Sunday this January, I grabbed my camera and wandered around the garden and captured some shots of the many busy bees in the garden, following them from flower to flower, trying to get the perfect photo!

Bees are such incredibly fascinating creatures to watch just do their thing, aren't they so cool? Look at all these bee bums!

Along with all the beautiful bees, there were also peacocks joining in on the family braai, this gorgeous creature brought along three of her new babies as well...

Look how adorable they are!

The little peacock babies are so damn adorable, I fell in love! They spent the entire afternoon following the mommy peacock around and I therefore spent the entire afternoon following them around with my camera at the ready to shoot all my new feathered friends!

I absolutely love how gorgeous and regal these birds are, they are by far my favourite! They have such a beautiful colour to them, beautiful blues and greens adorning their necks!

Don't get me started on the amazing colours of the Male birds, they shine in the sun and have such amazing feathers, I unfortunately didn't catch a shot of the male with his back feathers fanned out but man its a sight to see!

So all-in-all it was a great Sunday, filled with yummy food, new friends and fun family chats! I hope you all enjoyed seeing my shots from the garden and fell in love with the peacocks the same way I did!

Amazing photography! I just love the detail you captured and the colors. If I may ask, what gear did you use?

The baby birds are so cute and that nostalgic feeling of a family braai is intense. The smell, the gathering, the sound, the feeling. In my youth, when I thought I was a poet, I wrote a poem about this exact Sunday braai feeling!
