RE: Lights out. (Last Week's Favorite Photos Part 1)

I haven't seen a night sky like that since I was young, and lived in the country. Now I live in the suburbs and we don't have a lot of light pollution, so I do see stars. Last night it was wonderful. We went out at about 9:30 and the sky put on a show for us. My daughter helped me spot one of the Dippers.

You captured the stars beautifully here.

A good decision to move where you can see the stars! Probably a healthier life as where you can't. And happier.

I still remember one time when we were on our way to eastern Germany, driving through parts that were quite empty back then. We were on the highway, my brother and I sleeping in the trunk (it was a VW Passat, so the trunk was made into a bed by my father). My parents woke us up. They had stopped at the side, it was the middle of the night. It was the first time that I saw the milky way. It was SO impressive.

The second and last time I saw it like that was in Chile, 14 years ago, in the Atacames desert. We were hitchhiking, and had been dropped of in the middle of the desert, making camp there. It was equally impressive.
