LIL: Images of a Cat and a Dog, Captured for the LMAC Gallery

It's been a while since I contributed pictures to LIL, the LMAC Image Gallery. A couple of weeks ago I posted a blog about my cat, and it occurred to me that many impressive pictures were not included in that blog. It also occurs to me that my daughter has sent me many pictures taken when she walks her dog. I'm going to include a few of these in my LIL contribution today.

The Cat

I start with my cat first, in this blog. I gushed about the personality of that cat in my previous blog. I explained that he is not even my cat, but belongs to my daughter. Nonetheless we, my husband and I, claim him. As many readers noted, the cat is a character, a bit of a rogue.

Here is a picture of the cat sitting on the windowsill in my bedroom. If I leave the window open wide enough, he climbs behind the curtain. I worry because we are on the second floor, but the screen seems secure and he doesn't show any interest in jumping out.

There was a time I wouldn't get close to this cat because he had a nasty, unpredictable temper. I would walk past him and he would suddenly take a whack with his claw. That claw could do a lot of damage. We're pretty sure we know why he acted like that. For a little short period he had gone to stay with someone else. My daughter learned this was not a good situation. The other person had a temper and would be quite cruel to the cat, which is why my daughter took him back.

Given the experience of cruel stewardship, it stands to reason that the cat would be guarded, and even aggressive.

It's been years since the cat's aggressive personality has been evident. Only the dog gets a taste of the cat's claw. But then, the dog does play rough. However, a few days ago, not long after I posted my blog about the cat, he took exception to something I did.

He had been foraging for food on the cabinet, and stealing something he should not eat. Stealing food, for a cat, is not a terrible crime, except this animal is on a restricted diet and simply cannot eat salty food. He has kidney issues.

I lifted him from the cabinet. He struggled, to get out of my arms and to keep his food. This is what happened in the course of his struggle.

I know that such a wound can be a problem. My husband had cat scratch fever when he was in Ireland as a child and he was quite ill, even hospitalized. I treated my wound with hydrogen peroxide and Bacitracin ointment, just to be safe.

In the past, a young me would have been very angry with the cat. But not now. I was annoyed, and I was also reminded that a cat does have claws. No matter how cute the cat may be, these claws are a weapon, used in self defense. I have been more careful ever since that incident. My scratches are healing nicely.

The Dog

The dog is much calmer than he was last year when I took care of him while my daughter went to work. Last year his care consumed most of my time. This year, he wanders upstairs and downstairs at will. I don't really have much to do for him except cover my bed with a sheet, to protect it, and put away the cat food. I also of course, walk him, feed him, and most of all, love him.

He is a most wonderful, clever dog. He seems to have a strong predator instinct. Here he is catching sight of a deer on one of his walks with my daughter.

We have a lot of deer in my area, even though I live in a populated suburban community. I saw one on the side of the road, munching on a shrub. I was driving out of the busy center of town at the time. Here's a short video of a deer my daughter saw along the side of the road the other day, as she was driving (she stopped to shoot the video).

The dog is a natural in water. My daughter takes him to the beach often and he frolics in the water (always while he is wearing a leash). She fills a kiddie pool for him in the backyard and he cools off in it on a hot day. Here is a still I captured from a video that showed him enjoying a 'dip'.

I posted a few pictures of the dog I thought might be useful to the LMAC Image Library. We certainly had a beautiful model for them.

All the pictures posted below are intended to be additions to the LIL Gallery. Once a picture is included in the Gallery it is in the public domain. Anyone on Hive may borrow pictures from the Gallery, and anyone on Hive may contribute to the Gallery.

There are over 15,000 pictures in the LMAC library. This library is a rich resource for the Hive community, and has grown entirely from community participation.

If you are interested in helping LIL grow even larger, instructions for contributing and borrowing may be found at @shaka's blog, here. While you're there you might be inspired to join in our collage contest. The contest was the original impetus for the creation of the library.

Thank you for reading. Health and peace to all.

Thank you! Yes, he does have beautiful eyes. He can get away with anything when he looks at us with those eyes :)

If the cat has been traumatized, it's normal he react like this, God knows what he went through

I agree! He's a great cat, with a lot of spirit. We like that about him. My husband always says, "He's his own man."
