Torremolinos, Spain

Torremolions is located in southern Spain on the ”Costa del Sol” region of Andalusia. This part of Spain is very close to the African continent and shares a lot of culture with North Africa due to shared history and proximity.
Apparently the term “Andalusia” is a Spanish rendition of the Arabic term “Al-Andalus”, which in itself was apparently an Arabic rendition of the North African (Amazigh) term used to refer to the ”land of the Vandals”. There are competing theories, including those claiming the term comes from the corruption of the world ”Atlantis”. ref.
Whatever the case may be, it’s one of the most beautiful parts of the world that I’ve ever experienced. Back when I visited, I travelled only with my beautiful little film camera, the Olympus 35 RC and a pack of Kodak Portra 800. It was the wrong film, since the Costa del Sol, has a lot of Sol, thus needed a much slower speed film to capture the colours without blowing too much out.
Thankfully the film exposure latitude on Kodak Portra saved the day. I managed to shoot at the maximum shutter speed of 1/500 and only overexpose by 2 stops, which is fine for film. If it had been a digital camera limited to those settings, all of the photos would have been completely unrecoverablely blown out.
The photos above are from Benalmádena and Playa Carolina. The earthy brown, beige and the blue and white of the sea and light houses made such a perfect scene time after time. I still dream of some of the vistas there, including the small little ground floor apartment that I stayed in. The owner was a retired Irish bloke who lived on the top floor ( with better views of the ocean) and rented out the ground floor to holiday makers. It wasn’t much - just a room with a bathroom and tiny kitchen area, but I wasn’t spending time indoors anyway.
I haven’t been back to Andalusia since, and I hope to go back soon. I particularly want to visit Gibraltar and maybe even Portugal in the process. One of my dreams would be to do a boat crossing to Morocco, but the situation there right now is pretty uncertain. Recently some African migrants were beaten to death by the security forces, both Spanish and Moroccan I believe, in that genera region. So, even though that’s a dream of mine to visit that part, I’ll be avoiding it until there’s stability.

Really beautiful photos bro
Congratulations, the best regards 🙋🙋
Thank you. It's a beautiful place 🙏☀️
Do you Live there my Friend or you visite it in vacation.
It is amazing place, I wishes lived there and breath fresh air, walk around the sea and take a lot of picture to posting in #hive 🤭🤭
I went there on holiday some years ago. I wish to live there too haha.
Beautiful but that last part just made me sad, well it's nature after all so I'd focus on the beauty of nature than the circumstances of that place but like you, I don't Want to visit such a place of unrest.
By the way those shots are brilliant and beautiful, I like them 😍
Yes it's pretty sad what's happening, but we can work for a better future for everyone so people don't find themselves in these situations.
You are absolutely right, we all have a role to play in making things better.
How do you scan the image from analog camera? I know the process from roll to picture but do you manually scan it with a scanner so that it becomes a digital file?
@macchiata I want to know too!
Yes I use a scanner. There are dedicated scanners for this that go from film negative/slide to a digital file. You can also get insets to put the film strip in and use a regular scanner. Some people use DSLRs and macro lenses to photograph the negative, and then invert using software.
Interesting to know that scanning is not the only way digitizing them. I have seen some analog camera and wanting to get them. It's probably a bit of work to scan but I saw even your picture has some vintage touch to it which is something I love!
The main issue will be the cost of film, which is very expensive here now. Fewer companies are making new film so the variety is down a lot too. It is a fun process though. If you develop by yourself, its a little cheaper but probably not as good as the professional labs. Yes the photos are a joy to see with the nostalgic feel to them.
Last time I went to Benalmádena, I spotted bog roll floating around in the sea, it was some time ago 😀
Oh dear. Hope they haven't redirected their sewage into the sea 😂
I wants to go there and see all wonderful places. Scenic views always soothe the heart. All the things are looking very beautiful. Overall your photography is awesome but last picture is my favorite in your photography. Thanks for sharing your happiness with us.
Thank you 🙏
I do enjoy taking photos :). and Andalusia is one the best places to be for that
Seems like A lovely place to go. I found Barcelona, Spain amazing on my visit in august even visiting the smaller towns and villages outside Barcelona was great would love to go back and visit other places in Spain.
It is lovely out there. It gets too hot in summer for some people, and the whole place smells like fish at that point, but I love it haha. I also liked Barcelona. I actually visited near by Tarragona and went to Barcelona for two days (which is nowhere near enough). I hope to visit Barca properly one day.
Agreed, it was hot in Barcelona but they have many water sprayers on the streets that you can stand under and they do A good job cooling you down, The city was great it's very big but their Metro system is very good and quite cheap the rail card we got cost us 13 Euros and we got around 10-12 trips out of it including our train rides out of the city to get to our Hotel.
Really nice photos for the conditions! You've used those rolls of Porta well.
That's a really nice place, too. How beautiful! Even if it isn't really Atlantis.
haha. Thanks 😂
