Sunday At Ally Pally

A DAY IN ONE OF LONDON'S HISTORIC PARKS

Greetings all,

I hope you've had a good weekend. I took some time off today, Sunday, to visit a different part of London. I was first in Highgate Woods, and then in nearby Alexander Palace, North London.

I'm quite familiar with Ally Pally, since I've been there so many times over the years, but it's always interesting to be back there. Like many parks in London, it holds a lot of history and is associated with some "palace" or the other. It is from here that the BBC transmitted the first television signal ever. This is because it is one of the highest peaks, if not the highest peak (I'm thinking Primrose Hill may be higher), in London. As such, you can see virtually across the city from this place.

I actually didn't go to the viewing points today. Rather I spent time sat near the beautiful pond. I also decided to go on one of those paddle boats to get closer to the birds haha. They are designed for much smaller (shorter anyway) people than me. I always struggle with the pedals since my knees are angled too high in that position. Oh well, I just took it slowly and enjoyed the scenes.

Some people feed the birds so they do come up to you in the paddle boats. I can imagine they've become so accustomed to it now. At some point a flock of birds swarmed several times overhead. I managed to grab one photo, but I wasn't expecting them so I didn't catch a good shot.

It's a fun place for families, and there were many there, particularly on such a pleasant late summer's day.

Peace & Love,

Adé

I go past there on the train into London. Not been to the park, but I've been to one or two events at the hall on the hill. Maybe I should go and explore there some time. Need to enjoy being outside before it starts getting cold again.

You'd probably like it. A lot of people run here because it's going large paths, and a lot of up-hill opportunities for people training for endurance. The views are also very nice.

I just checked and there is a parkrun there, but getting there in the morning would mean an early start.
