Lemon balm infusions

My mother was a lover of plants, of working in the garden, some people prefer flowering plants, others green ones, some both, but my mother loved to have, in addition to all of the above, some medicinal plants, I mean some that could be used to make teas or infusions or that had some medicinal function.

I don't know if it was always part of her love for plants, but I do remember that when she was an oncology patient, a sister from the church recommended her a plant that here is called mapurite, the plant owes its name to the fact that it has a horrible smell, like that of the mapurites (skunks).

The truth is that I do not remember how my mother used this plant, but I do remember that in her case her body seemed to respond, so sometimes she would sweat the smell of the plant, that is why I remember it so much, maybe it was due to the amount of chemicals to which her body was exposed during this time of her life, between chemotherapies and radiotherapies.

Since then I noticed that my mother tried to have plants such as malojillo, oregano orejonjil, lemon balm and I don't remember if any other, but for me the most precious of them all is the lemon balm plant.

Originally, there were only two lemon balm plants, but she managed to plant one or two more. One of them is closer to home and is the one I have tried to take care of, and from there from time to time I take some branches and prepare tea.

Now I share with you how I prepare the tea or infusion of lemon balm:

1000113622.jpg

  • I take some branches with scissors, I do not like to pull them out by hand, because it seems to me that I mistreat the plant.

  • I wash the branches I take, the reason is that since there are so many cats in the area, as well as dogs and other animals, we do not know how clean they are, not to mention ants and other insects.

  • I take the whole branches and put them in a pot with water. The amount of water will depend on how many branches there are (we can also put the leaves alone). In addition to how concentrated the infusion is desired, we let it cook.

  • When it starts to boil, leave it for a few minutes, then turn it off, remove the branches and let the infusion rest. It can be taken lukewarm or we let it rest to put it in the fridge and take it cold.

Now, in my case I started taking lemon balm because in my college days I suffered from a lot of stress, to the point of not sleeping or not digesting properly, so my grandmother, who knew the benefits of the plant, began to give me lemon balm tea at night, for those who do not know the benefits include:

  • Helps reduce anxiety and stress
  • Improves sleep quality.
  • Relieves digestive problems, such as gas and colic.

The truth is that taking infusions of this plant helped me a lot at that stage of my college life, so I love it and I recommend it to people who may be experiencing problems such as lack of sleep or stomach problems.

In short, this is one of the plants in my garden with which I prepare drinks. I say goodbye leaving here my participation in WEEK 5 of The Weekly Hive Garden Question ☕🌿 26 April

Me despido dejando por acá mi participación en WEEK 5 of The Weekly Hive Garden Question ☕🌿 26 April

I think medicinal plants are a great idea for the garden. I also tried to plant them, but unfortunately I didn't succeed. Probably the soil in my garden is not too good for them

Yes, it is very useful to have medicinal plants in the garden. I think that besides the soil, it can influence the climate, but try again to do some research beforehand about the care of the plant you want to plant in your garden.

Having decorative plants is something we all like, but having medicinal plants is something wonderful, but you have to know how to use them and manage them well, with their care and everything ❤️

You hit the nail on the head @elbuhito, people sometimes abuse certain plants both in shots and use, as well as in combinations with others; if you do something, you have to do it well.

Nothing like having our garden with plants that give us the possibility to prepare a healthy tea.
