My Actifitivity: October 10 2022
Monday.
With plenty more sunshine and surprisingly warm temperatures. Time for a long and soothing afternoon walk into the forest.
I came across a beautiful big mossy tree stump covered by rich clusters of little brown mushrooms. Probably sulphur tufts or something similar. I didn't check for details like their gills and their scent as these are most probably non-edibles anyway.
Not edible but very nice to look at. Mossy tree stumps and mushrooms are always awesome. Especially when combined with each other.
I also collected a small bunch of turkey tail mushrooms, trametes versicolor. These aren't edible either, but you can dry them and prepare them like a tea which has amazing immune system modulating benefits.
These are really easy to find and grow in abundance all over the world. Their banded coloured rings (which come in all sorts of shades, not just like you see them below) and the white rim are very distinct. Obviously that's also where they got their name.
To make sure you have the right kind and not a lookalike, though, you still always need to check the underside. There should be no gills, no spikes, just a smooth surface of super-duper tiny pores.
Thanks for your time!

The mushroom king strikes again. What happens if you eat them turkey tails?
lol... I'm a noob. But I am a quick learner ;)
If you eat them raw, you'll probably have an upset stomache, which goes for almost ALL mushrooms as their cells are made with chitin which isn't digestible. After cooking the chitin breaks down into some proteins and stuff, so... never eat raw mushrooms.
Other than that, turkey tails aren't toxic or anything, but their meat is super tough an rubbery so you'll just have a very hard time chewing them. The medically active components are water soluble, so getting their benefits is the easiest by just brewing a tea with them. You can also buy them as a pre-heated powder in capsules.
I read I like learning the hard way!
Tea it is; can't chew it all day! Although technically I do this, I chew yummy tasty things! !LOL
It's fun to learn about new things, a productive hobby. Mine is consuming fantasy novels. With my mind, not physically. - just to be clear. Not os constructive, but enjoyable none the less.
krkrkrk... books are rich in fibre, too...
