Me gusta conocer lugares nuevos. Si veo la posibilidad de explorar todos los lugares interesantes de una zona, lo hago. No me gusta ir a un lugar y no pensar en todas las posibilidades que ofrece. Todo rincón merece ser explorado. Esto sucedió en mi primera visita a la zona de La Cuesta, al sureste de San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Es una localidad dentro de Tenerife con una buena cantidad de población, ya que cuenta con una ubicación ideal, justo entre la ciudad de Santa Cruz y La Laguna. Se compone de algunos barrios y zonas residenciales y cuenta con una actividad comercial importante (además de albergar una población importante de latinoaméricanos).

I don't like to go to a place and not think about all the possibilities it has to offer. Every corner deserves to be explored. This happened on my first visit to the area of La Cuesta, southeast of San Cristobal de La Laguna. It is a locality within Tenerife with a good amount of population, as it has an ideal location, right between the city of Santa Cruz and La Laguna. It consists of some neighborhoods and residential areas and has an important commercial activity (in addition to hosting an important population of Latin Americans).

En mi primera visita a La Laguna, estuve transitando por la avenida principal de la localidad. Estando allí, no pude evitar notar algo curioso en el Google Maps. Al norte de La Cuesta se puede observar en el mapa una especie de valle o barranco. Es bastante notorio, e inmediatamente pensé que las vistas allí podrían ser muy impresionantes. Me dirigi hacia allí sin saber excatmente lo que iba a encontrar, únicamente contaba con la información que arroja el Maps sobre lo que hay allí. Este pequeño desvío valió la pena, ya que, efectivamente, las vistas allí son espectaculares. Existe un pequeño parque y un mirador muy cerca (Mirador Féliz Hernández Acosta). No solamente hay vistas espectaculares de la montaña y el valle, junto a una pequeña represa, sino también vistas de la ciudad de Santa Cruz del otro lado de la rotonda del parque. Hay una hermosa vista del mar, el Auditorio de Tenerife y las dos torres.

On my first visit to La Laguna, I was walking along the main avenue of the town. While there, I could not help noticing something curious on the Google Maps. To the north of La Cuesta, you can see on the map a sort of valley or canyon. It is quite noticeable, and I immediately thought that the views there could be very impressive. I headed there without knowing exactly what I was going to find, I was only relying on the information provided by the Maps about what is there. This small detour was worth it, because, indeed, the views there are spectacular. There is a small park and a viewpoint nearby (Mirador Féliz Hernández Acosta). There are not only spectacular views of the mountain and the valley, next to a small dam, but also views of the city of Santa Cruz on the other side of the park's traffic circle. There is a beautiful view of the sea, the Tenerife Auditorium, and the two towers.

De acuerdo al Google Maps, este barranco recibe el nombre de "Barranco de Tabares". Siguiendo el barranco aguas abajo (en dirección a Santa Cruz), podemos encontrar otro barranco de nombre "Barranco de Santos". Las vistas de la montaña y algunas pequeñas cuevas en ella son impresionantes. En las fotos puede parecer que es un sitio lejos de la civilización, pero en realidad La Cuesta se encuentra justo al frente. Es una zona que por su vegetación y apariencia parece ser algo árida, especialmente por lo seco del río en el fondo del barranco. La lluvia no es muy frecuente en la isla de Tenerife. No muy lejos de allí, puedes caminar y llegar a una plaza icónica de la localidad de La Cuesta. Se trata de La Plaza El Tranvía. Agrego algunas fotos del sitio a esta publicación.

The views of the mountain and some small caves in it are impressive. In the photos, it may seem that it is a place far from civilization, but in reality, La Cuesta is just in front of it. It is an area that by its vegetation and appearance appears to be somewhat arid, especially because of the dryness of the river at the bottom of the canyon. Rain is not very frequent on the island of Tenerife. Not far from there, you can walk and reach an iconic square of the town of La Cuesta. Se trata de La Plaza El Tranvía. En esta plaza, al parecer, transcurría antiguamente un Tranvía. Se puede ver en un mural de vidrio una representación de la zona en tiempos antiguos, en donde la chimenea que aún se conserva en la actualidad formaba parte del sistema de tranvías. Esta chimenea conforma una de las postales características de la localidad de La Cuesta. Existe otra chimenea similar en la zona de Taco, más al sur. La Cuesta es una localidad que quizás no destaque en cuanto a atracciones turísticas al igual que Santa Cruz al sur y La Laguna al norte, pero sin duda que contiene sitios puntuales que valen la pena explorar y observar.

You can see in a glass mural a representation of the area in ancient times, where the chimney is still preserved today as part of the tramway system. This chimney is one of the characteristic postcards of the town of La Cuesta. There is another similar chimney in the area of Taco, further south. La Cuesta is a town that may not stand out in terms of tourist attractions like Santa Cruz to the south and La Laguna to the north, but it certainly contains sites worth exploring and observing.
