View From The Top

In 1914 the Water Castle was inaugurated, emblematic monument for the people in Severin, which gives the city identity even today, reigning over the new pedestrian thoroughfare.
The construction became a monument and has been given to the people of Severin by Carol I, the first king of Romania. It was rehabilitated and placed in the tourist circuit by Drobeta Turnu Severin City Hall through a project funded by IPA Program Romania – Serbia Republic. The former water tower has now become a symbol, is visited daily by nearly 300 tourists, all interested in the spectacular panorama that it offers from behind the battlements.

The castle has stood there for what feels like forever. It's an emblematic place in the city mentioned earlier, situated 25 kilometers from my town. Honestly, I've passed by it countless times during my visits to the city, but I've never felt inclined to actually go there, to be honest.

This weekend, a friend of mine, @sorin-tm, who was in town suggested we pay it a visit. I could only say yes. Our time there was rather brief, and truth be told, I wouldn't recommend it as a tourist attraction. Hence, I didn't pin it on the Pinmapple community.

Apart from the view from the top, which brought back memories of my time in Salzburg, Austria, at the end of January this year, there isn't much to see inside. There are a few posters scattered around, some handcrafted so-called works of art, and you can find snippets of history in certain chambers, but nothing remarkable.

The view from above is quite impressive, especially the one where you can see the Danube near the city's banks. It would have been nice if there was a restaurant at that elevation.

But enough with the complaints. It was a relatively pleasant Saturday experience overall. The weather was sunny and warm when we went there, but now it seems like rain is about to start pouring. However, there will be sun once the rain settles, as in anything in life.

That's about it from me for now. I wish you all a great, sunny, and warm Sunday, and see you tomorrow.

Ciudat. Cand am fost eu, batea... Ce-i drept, nu la fel ca la Turnul Galatei, dar destul de tare.
