The Iron Gates Museum: A Gentle Sail Through Time

photo_2024-04-07_19-43-01.jpg

In my @pinmapple post from yesterday, I shared a bunch of photos from the remains of the Castro, built in this area by the Romans dating back to the year 100 AD. I mentioned in that post that I took about 300 pics over there, but truth be told, it's actually just 298 of them. Here, I'm bringing another batch to you.

Let's start with the Iron Gates Museum in Drobeta Turnu Severin, which is definitely worth a visit. It took us well above half an hour to go through all of it, and every moment spent there was worth it.

In this first part of my extensive tour, I'll be sharing some pics I took with replicas of the famous bridge built by Apolodorus of Damascus for the Romans to conquer part of Dacia, along with some artifacts dating back to the 4th-3rd millennia BC.

This side of the museum takes us back to some of the oldest ages of civilization, and my favorite part of these initial chambers was the one with the old boat, preserved so well.

Looking at how our ancestors lived, one can only appreciate the technology and gadgets we have today, and the level of comfort we enjoy. We don't need to hunt, build fires to warm our homes, or cover ourselves with animal skins to protect us from bad weather. Everything we need for comfortable living is just a touch of a button away.

It's hard to summarize what the tour was really about, but I have to say, it was definitely worth it. Just seeing how that famous bridge was built with the primitive tools they had at hand makes me wonder what life on Earth will look like 100 years from now.

AI has revolutionized social media, while Elon Musk plans on colonizing Mars, and we've only scratched the surface of what technology can offer. Imagine what the next couple of centuries will hold for humanity...

I will let the photos speak for themselves, so enjoy the tour, guys.
