Do They Feel Anything?

The mayor is heavily into cleaning the town lately and to be honest he is not doing an awful job at that because he cleans the stuff that shouldn't be cleaned, or better said he's strategy is flawed.

He seems to have some problems with trees, especially tree branches and leaves. He considers that these are making too much mess during autumn when their leaves fall on the sidewalks.

But...

I don't consider "mutilating trees" to be fair... Nature should be protected and although it's in town trees that we're talking about I wouldn't go heavily on cleaning them of their branches.

Aside from the fact that they play an important role in providing us with oxygen, a damn tree has to have branches and leaves and honestly looks like shit without them. Plus there are the birds that pretty much live in these things.

But do politicians give any actual fuck about that? No, they don't cuz the plebs who don't give much shit either will vote for them anyway.

I was thinking though, and it might sound stupid, but do trees and plants in general feel anything? I know animals do feel pain and pleasure, but what about plants, what do you think?
