Cutleaf Groundcherry

The story the perul fruit surrounded natural beauty

Todays topic of discussion is a small yet beautiful plant and its fruit that we can easily see on the roadsides or bushes of the village. The plant seen in the picture is locally known as the 'perul' fruit or 'Physalis' in English. Some also know it as 'ground cherry' or 'cap gudi'.

The picture was taken in a natural environment in the Shah Alam area Selangor, Malaysia. In the center of the picture is a small green fruit, which is covered with a leaf-like covering. The outer part this fruit is wrapped in a thin, paper-like peel, which actually protects the fruit. Inside the peel is a small, round, usually yellow or orange fruit. It is as attractive to look at as it is nutritious.

Characteristics perul fruit

The perul fruit tree is usually small in size and grows quickly. It grows easily in tropical countries and grows without much care. The leaves and stems the tree have light hairs. This sheath looks like a bell, which protects the fruit from the heat of the sun and insects.

Sometimes village children eat this fruit while playing, because its taste is a little sour-sweet. Some also use it as a home medicine by drying it.

A perfect creation nature

The natural structure and natural color of the perul fruit are so beautifully displayed in the picture that it can be called a perfect creation nature. It is as if nature itself has developed the fruit in such a way that it can sustain its existence - to protect itself from sun, rain insects.

This fruit teaches us that nature never creates anything unnecessary. Every small big tree, fruit, leaf—everything has some hidden function.

What we can do

Even though such trees are around us, we often do not understand their importance. If we are a little aware, we can better preserve natural gifts like the perul fruit. Children can be taught about this tree, so that they can be more friendly with nature.

Even a small tree can give us a lot—nutrition, medicine, beauty, and even education. So let's get to know, take care of, and love this small but valuable friend of nature.
