I had the opportunity to approach a youth Afro-Cuban dance group on a cobblestone street in Old Havana. Tuve la oportunidad de acercarme a un grupo juvenil de danza afrocubana en una calle adoquinada de la Habana Vieja. Estaban ensayando para un evento donde se celebra la influencia de la cultura africana y caribeña, que es parte de nuestra sangre y nuestras costumbres hoy en día, después de siglos de colonialismo, esclavismo y conquista por parte del entonces imperio español. Destacaba entre los chicos este jovencito, que encarnaba a una deidad africana muy poderosa y a la vez traviesa. Sus saltos y muecas eran explosivos y enérgicos, cautivando a todos los presentes y testigos del ensayo. Habrá que ver cuando ya se disfracen y personifiquen a esos dioses africanos tan antiguos como la raza humana misma, estoy seguro de que será un espectáculo digno de ver!
