One week at a time. Chapter 5 - eng/esp

Hello, photography lovers! Today I bring you chapter 5 with several photographic exercises that I did on the site 52frames during 2020, my first year there. I hope you find them interesting!

Hola, amantes de la fotografía! Hoy les traigo el capítulo 5 con varios ejercicios fotográficos que hice en el sitio 52frames durante el 2020, mi primer año ahí. Espero que les resulten interesantes!

Week 27, 2020: Complementary colors / Colores complementarios
We bought some groceries and I choose some bell peppers to photograph, having a global concept about what I wanted to “create” for this challenge. This beautiful cubic-shaped veggie was the perfect selection because of its vertical walls, and reminds me the game where pumpkins and melons are as squared as everything there, if you know which one is. Of course, green and red are perfect contrast!

Compramos algunos alimentos y elegí este pimiento para fotografiar, teniendo un concepto global de lo que quería “crear” para este desafío. Esta hermosa verdura de forma cúbica fue la selección perfecta por sus paredes verticales y me recuerda al juego donde las calabazas y los melones son tan cuadrados como todo lo que hay, si sabes cuál es. ¡Por supuesto, el verde y el rojo son un contraste perfecto!

Week 28, 2020: Edited by some one else / Tu foto editada por alguien más
My daughter wanted a photo with her glasses on, and I wanted a photo edited by my dear friend @janetedita, she is an amazing photographer/editor/retoucher and has a lot of experience editing for photography studios. Just the right touch in the right places, and we were all happy!

Mi hija quería una foto con sus lentes puestos y yo quería una foto editada por mi querida amiga @janetedita, ella es una fotógrafa/editora/retocadora increíble y tiene mucha experiencia editando para estudios de fotografía. El toque justo en los lugares correctos y todos quedamos felices!

Week 29, 2020: Details / Detalles
I remembered I had an habano cigar on my fridge, a present of a friend of mine. I don’t smoke, but cuban tobacco is a good subject to point my camera at. This is a Romeo y Julieta, Churchill size (in honor of Winston Churchill, the Old Lion, great UK leader back in WW2 and…in his early times, a war correspondant during cuban conflict. Maybe here he started to love habano cigars)
Don’t smoke, please. But I can tell that the smell of an unlit cuban cigar and cedar altogether feels great.

Recordé que tenía un habano en mi refrigerador, regalo de un amigo. No fumo, pero el tabaco cubano es un buen tema al que apuntar con la cámara. Este es un Romeo y Julieta, tamaño Churchill (en honor a Winston Churchill, el Viejo León, gran líder del Reino Unido en la Segunda Guerra Mundial y… en sus primeros tiempos, corresponsal de guerra durante el conflicto cubano. Quizás aquí comenzó a amar los puros habanos)
No fumes, por favor. Pero puedo decir que el olor de un cigarro cubano apagado y de cedro se siente genial.

Week 30, 2020: Negative space / Espacio negativo
I have tons of pictures using negative space, in fact, I consider myself as a “negative spaceman” ;-). The thing is, once I’ve been “forced”, I don’t know where to start. I hanged this old white banner in my backyard and waited for my cat to do cats stuff. I edited later surface defects on the background, added color and texture, et voilà.

Tengo toneladas de fotografías usando el espacio negativo, de hecho, me considero un “astronauta negativo” ;-). La cuestión es que, una vez que me han “obligado”, no sé por dónde empezar. Colgué esta vieja pancarta blanca en mi patio trasero y esperé a que mi gato hiciera cosas de gatos. Posteriormente edité defectos superficiales en el fondo, agregué color y textura, y listo.

Week 31, 2020: Water / Agua
I felt my soul soar again. Living in an island I can't do less than love the sea. I packed my bag with my tripod, my set of Gobe 82mm ND filters and drove down to the coast. Found my spot and took a few shots. I could wait until late sunset, but a storm was in formation and I was very close to the water, sooner or later a wave would claim my camera.

Sentí mi alma elevarse nuevamente. Al vivir en una isla no puedo hacer menos que amar el mar. Empaqué mi bolso con mi trípode, mi juego de filtros ND Gobe de 82 mm y conduje hasta la costa. Encontré mi lugar y tomé algunas fotos. Podía esperar hasta el atardecer, pero se estaba formando una tormenta y yo estaba muy cerca del agua, tarde o temprano una ola reclamaría mi cámara.

Week 32, 2020: A new experience / Una nueva experiencia
We were in Camagüey province, our homeland, and I knew this challenge was going to be fulfilled without problems. That day we went to La Boca beach (The Mouth), it’s the entrance for Nuevitas bay and many sharks had always been around, visitors are used to them and are all the time aware to avoid close encounters. The restaurant were we had lunch, has a pact with the sharks: they let people swim until noon, and later it’s their territory…workers from the restaurant feed them with fish. My daughter (featured) was amazed with the shark and scared because we were swimming right there an hour before. It was a small one, about 5 feet long, but that was enough for us, we had to move to another area. The day before there were six of those sharks, locals said. Can you imagine?

Estábamos en la provincia de Camagüey, nuestra patria, y sabía que este desafío se iba a cumplir sin problemas. Ese dia fuimos a la playa La Boca, es la entrada a la bahía de Nuevitas y desde siempre han existido muchos tiburones, los visitantes están acostumbrados a ellos y están todo el tiempo atentos para evitar encuentros cercanos. El restaurante donde almorzamos tiene un pacto con los tiburones: dejan nadar a los humanos hasta el mediodía, y luego es su territorio…los trabajadores del restaurante les dan de comer pescado. Mi hija (en la foto) quedó maravillada con el tiburón y asustada porque estábamos nadando allí mismo hacía una hora antes. Era pequeño, como 5 pies de largo, pero eso fue suficiente para nosotros, tuvimos que trasladarnos a otra zona. El día anterior había seis de esos tiburones, dijeron los lugareños. ¿Te imaginas?

Some photos correspond better than others to each challenge posed...I will embrace imperfection!
Algunas fotos corresponden mejor que otras a cada reto planteado...abrazaré la imperfección!
