A Taste of New Zealand in Sabah: Desa Dairy Farm

Desa Dairy Farm, a hidden gem nestled high up in the hillside of Mesilau, Sabah, right beside the majestic Mt. Kinabalu. This picturesque tourist attraction has drawn comparisons to the stunning landscapes of New Zealand, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a touch of enchantment.

In the past, you could simply drive up the driveway and pay on the spot to enter the premises. However, the experience has evolved, and now you'll need to prebook your tickets online beforehand, lest you find yourself barred from entering this wondrous place. The ticket prices remain affordable, at RM5 for adults, RM4 for children between 7 and 12 years old, and free admission for the little ones aged 6 years and below.

On the day of our visit, the weather was a bit moody, with thick clouds obscuring the magnificent sight of Mt. Kinabalu. Yet, the chill in the air and the gentle breeze made the experience rather refreshing. We parked our car at the designated parking area and strolled towards the charming lobby to kickstart our adventure.

Our first stop was the cow milking area, where we marveled at the orderly queue of cows awaiting their turn for the milking process. An elevated see-through platform allowed us to witness this fascinating process up close.

In another pen, we found adorable young cows and goats playfully prancing about. It was a delight to interact with these friendly creatures and give them a gentle pat or two. As we explored further, we were captivated by the lush and colorful floral beds that adorned the area, adding a touch of beauty to the farm's surroundings.

Should hunger strike, there's a cozy restaurant nearby, offering a tempting selection of snacks and, of course, their renowned fresh-packed milk and yogurt. Unfortunately, the wait was a bit longer than expected due to some understaffing issues that day, so we decided to save the treat for another time.

The entire tour lasted around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your pace and level of fascination with the farm's offerings. While it's particularly appealing to young ones during school holidays, it's equally captivating for overseas tourists seeking a unique experience.

If you've never set foot in this enchanting place before, I wholeheartedly recommend adding it to your travel itinerary. The cool weather and breathtaking views, especially on clear days, make Desa Dairy Farm a destination that promises delightful memories and an escape from the ordinary.
