I was visiting a rural territory, and while my companion was talking, there was an almost imperceptible movement near me, which was lost among the lights and shadows of the ground. The stones and muddy soil hid a natural beauty. As I insisted with my curious gaze, I was able to distinguish the butterfly inspecting the place.

When my companion's conversation ended, I asked the owner of the house for permission to take some pictures. She asked me: "What will you take a picture of?" She had not noticed her little visitor. When she saw me doing my best to capture the best pictures, she understood what I was all about.

I put a lot of effort into it since it is one of the specimens that my wife likes. We had seen this species before. But I had not seen the upper part of its wings. I was surprised when she opened them and noticed the stark contrast on that side of her delicate wings. It looks like a totally different butterfly. Black and bluish tones is what she was exhibiting, and I don't think my camera does justice to the actual brightness she had.

I hope she enjoyed the photo shoot, because I did. I didn't think I'd come across a butterfly like the one we'd seen before, which makes me optimistic that I'll get another chance to continue to admire them.

Visitaba un territorio rural, y mientras mi compañero hablaba, había un casi imperceptible movimiento cerca de mí, que se perdía entre las luces y sombras del suelo. Las piedras y suelo fangoso escondía una belleza natural. Al insistir con mi mirada curiosa, pude distinguir la mariposa que inspeccionaba el lugar.

Cuando la conversación de mi compañero terminó, le pedí permiso a la dueña de la casa para tomar algunas fotos. Ella me preguntó: "¿A qué le tomará foto?" Ella no se había percatado de su pequeño visitante. Cuando me vio haciendo lo posible por capturar las mejores fotos es que entendió de qué se trataba.

Le puse empeño en vista de que es una de las ejemplares que le gusta a mi esposa. Ésta especie ya la habíamos visto antes. Pero yo no había visto la parte superior de sus alas. Me sorprendí cuando las abrió y noté el marcado contraste que tiene en ese lado de sus delicadas alas. Parece una mariposa totalmente diferente. Tonos negros y azulados es lo que exhibía, y creo que mi cámara no le hace justicia al brillo real que tenía.

Espero que ella haya disfrutado la sesión fotográfica, porque yo sí la disfruté. No pensé toparme con una mariposa igual a la que habíamos visto antes, lo que me hace tener optimismo que podré tener otra oportunidad de seguirlas admirando.
