My submission for an art contest!!

Hello Hive,I haven't blogged for days because I have been pretty occupied.
I entered an art contest earlier this month and this is my submission.
It is a 27×39 inches sized pen drawing of myself and two teddy bears.

AUGUST

The title for this piece is AUGUST. The reason for this title is because this month of August has been a particularly beautiful month for me as an artist and as a person. However, it wasn't a bed of roses,to be quite specific, it was a lot for me mentally, financially,as well as physically, but amidst all the chaos I experienced massive growth as an individual and as an artist. And then I also made this beautiful piece.

ABOUT AUGUST

The prompt for the contest is "selfportrait stilllife". So basically, contestants have to make an artwork that contains a self portrait of themselves interacting with some sort of inanimate object.
This was the outline for my drawing.

I didn't have a problem choosing a picture for my self portrait as it was easy for me to just take a picture. The object I was to interact with however was the bothersome part. I had thought of flowers,cards,paint brushes e.t.c but they didn't satisfy my creative hunger.
So ultimately I chose teddy bears cos why not.

The host for this contest,showed an example of a selfportrait stilllife painting that he made where he was holding a skull. I incorporated that into my drawing and that is the teddy bear in my hand holding a skull while the teddy bear holding a brush is a representation of myself. I think it is pretty clever.

The style I used for this piece is a fusion of scribbling and fading. A style I am so comfortable using and confident in.
The whole idea was for this massive drawing to look like one big sketch,and it did turn out the way I expected it to.

I used only two colours of pen for this piece:blue and brown.
I chose these two colours because of the harmony they both create. Blue is a stable colour and has a pretty texture while brown is a grounding colour with a bold and solid texture. The fusion of this two colours blend together to give an aesthetically pleasing sensation to the eyes.

I finished this piece 3days ago ,got it framed,took pictures and submitted it 2days ago.
I await the announcement of the winners on the 31st of this month. I am pretty confident that I can be one of the three winners,but in any case,I made a beautiful piece and I had fun doing it.
