Arter | Istanbul Museum (Part 1)
Hi friends, today I'm going to share with you some very special photos that I had a chance to take at Arter, one of the most popular museums in Istanbul. Here is a rather specific exhibition of contemporary art, which managed to be placed on four floors! The size of this museum and the amount of artworks really impressed me. I decided that I will split this post into 3 parts to give you the opportunity to experience this museum virtually with me. In the first part I will talk about the location and the route to the museum, ticket prices and how to start the exhibition and, of course, the exhibition itself. Let's get started!
Arter Museum of Contemporary Art is located at Yenişehir, Irmak caddesi 13 in the Beyoğlu, Istanbul. The museum also provides a free shuttle bus for visitors. The bus schedule can be found on the official website of the museum. The bus route starts near the Taksim metro and ends near the entrance of the museum. It is also important to note that this exhibition will run until the end of 2024. At the entrance of the museum there is a security guard who will check your belongings. Behind a large glass door there is a reception, here you have to pay for your ticket (6$) and here you will be given a yellow sticker with the title "Arter" (you will be asked to put this sticker on your clothes or on your bag). You will also be told that you should start viewing the exhibition from the fourth floor.
And here we are, following the advice of the museum worker, already on the fourth floor and looking at the first, rather extravagant, exhibition showpiece. In most cases, the exhibits do not make sense. Modern art here tells about creative thinking, human imagination or realization of crazy ideas. Everyone sees their own meaning here and that's fine. I guess it would be hard for me to say what exactly I saw here, but I know for sure that the man in the red T-shirt is Asian.
This piece of art is what I would call "NOT a Turkish breakfast."
And this is one of my all-time favorite pieces. It may look creepy enough, but when you think about the fact that it's handmade and these eye prosthetics are way more years old than I am, it's really amazing! I even tried to find an eye color that was similar to mine, and I think I did it.
Before it's too late, I want to say that there was a lot of the human body, or rather different body parts, in this exhibition. I think this has become the standard for contemporary art, even though I couldn't find any information about the age limit for this exhibition. Here is one of the first examples. Strange, isn't it?
The next exhibit amazed me with its realism. If this sculpture was a realistic size, you'd think it was the back of a real person. Just look at the details, where there are even the smallest wrinkles and age marks on the skin. I was very curious to touch it and understand what kind of material was used, but you can't do that in museums.
There were paintings at every step.
How's this LEATHER furniture set for a living room?
I swear this painting is taller than me!
An amazing installation that found its place on the ceiling.....
Hide-and-seek.
"Footprints after the zombie apocalypse."
You think this is what angels should look like?
The play of light.
Creepiest installation in this museum.
"Find Me."
And then there's the paintings again...
Do you see Jesus here? I was shocked.
The chairs are in my favorite Bauhaus style - practical, minimalist and elegant.
Just amazing!
Just a breast made of cigarettes.
More paintings. I told you - there are a lot of them here!
Hands, hands, hands, hands, hands...
Friends, I hope you're not in shock after looking at the pictures from the modern art exhibition. Some of the items I didn't understand at all, but that's okay though. You don't have to see the meaning in all the exhibits, because not all of them are even meant by the creator. But some of the exhibits amazed me and even inspired me! And that was only the first part, I will tell and show you more. See you soon, friends! Bye-bye!

Mdaaaaaa...... contemporary art is not Bauhaus, definitely. Impressive collection of rubbish, illness and decay. Time is out of joint. 🤓
