Welcome to the paradise called Grandma's River
Sometimes the road takes you where you didn't go. We went to a lake near Lazarevac town in central Serbia, which I will write about in one of my next posts, but then on the way we saw a sign for a turn to a place called "Babina reka", which translated from Serbian means grandma's river and it is the name of the stream that flows there.
I was curious to know what the place was like. I saw that it was an ethno village. There are many such villages in Serbia, but each has its own authenticity and uniqueness. That's why I always find it interesting to visit them.
Boards with motivational sayings were lined up along the road leading to Grandma's River. We slowed down and read them. I also got out of the car to take photos of them.
Some of the sayings were:
The happiest are those who manage to keep the child in them for the rest of their lives.
All that is worth in life is love.
Nature was fantastic. It seemed as if we were really entering the paradise zone.
Before entering the ethno village, along the road there are guest houses, decorated with stone.
When you continue along the road, you go straight into the valley where the complex of Grandma's River is located.
First you come across a lake full of fish, frogs and other living things which my kids enjoyed watching.
Along the entire lake there is a path for walking and some strange benches that are actually some old tools.
The lake is very small and you can cross from one side to the other also via the bridge.
On the other side of the lake there are stairs that lead you to the restaurant, museum and gallery.
In front, there is a landscaped yard with swings for children and a table for table tennis.
We stayed there for a while. My daughter was especially interested in swing baskets.
When you enter the restaurant area, you come across old items and lots of verses and interesting messages.
On the front door are the lyrics of a song about steps to freedom.
And it was especially interesting to me that above the door it says "who passes here falls in love".
I enjoyed reading all those motivational messages, such as "there are many things in the world that exist but serve no purpose and that's okay, but it's not okay to live your whole life in the world of those things".
At every step you can see something inspiring and you don't know where to look first.
Everything is about love, so you have a street of love...
A lake of hearts in love...
A bench of eternal love...
There is also a celebrity corner with photos of famous people who have visited this place.
I enjoyed sitting in this environment, it was very pleasant.
And the food was very tasty too. My kids ate traditional food "cevapi", a specialty of minced meat.
In the following posts, I will introduce you to the museum and gallery of this place.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
